Contempt of Court (Just a comedy)

April 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Contempt of court is an offence where one is found in acting in a disrespectful manner toward the court, judges or officers of court. Non complianace of judgment may sometime amount to contempt of court.

Under the law, the official language use in Malaysian court is our national language i.e. Malay Language, however, lawyer may plea to the judge for permission to use English in High Court and above.

This video shows a lawyer who asked for permission to speak in English was rejected by the judge and this caused the lawyer to have no choice but to speak in “broken Malay”. (By the way, it is just a comedy.)

I don’t think the language standard of Malaysian lawyers is that poor. In fact, in order for you to be admitted to Malaysian Bar, you need to score minimum a credit for your Malay Language in SPM (O-level), otherwise you will be required to pass a Malay oral test conducted by the Qualifying Board.

Anyway, hope you will enjoy the comedy!
