Malaysia Webmaster Gathering at The Curve - 5 July 2008

July 6th, 2008 · 29 Comments

As mentioned in my previous postthat I am attending the 3rd Malaysia Webmaster Gathering at the Curve, the Apartment Restaurant.

The event started around 1pm and we had a good refreshment (buffet lunch) sponsored by Exabytes

This time the venue seems to be more exclusive and cozy as compare to the one held at KL Sentral.

Lim CS, was addressing opening note.

The 1st speaker was Rohan Thomas from Microsoft, who was talking about Microsoft Silverlight. To be honest, this topic was just to technical to me. Many keywords like SAAS…..I didn’t quite understand what it was about (though I know who is Microsoft, hahaha!).

The most interesting speaker and topic of the day was Liew CF, sharing about his experience being the 1st Malaysian Pro-blogger.

liew-cf-webmaster-gathering-speaker.JPG

He started by showing us the apperance of the 2 blogs that he had during the early day. Then the next slide was “Mom I resigned from my job”.

He said he found it a bit difficult to explain to his mun about his new job (full time blogger). In fact, his mother was pretty worry about his resignation untill she saw cheques mailing in to him.

Being down to the earth, Liewcf revealed that at the early day he faced criticism on his command of English language. However, he added that his “broken English” is not a hurdle for him, he said as long as he knew what he was writing and his readers understood it then it is enough.

Apparently Google adsense consist of 75% of his source of income, which was also the 1st type of income to him.

What made him resigned was that his blogging income has way exceeded his full time job’s income (as a programmer cum IT support in a small company) as such je found no reason not to focus on blogging on full time basic.

He chose a good date to “enroll” to this new job i.e. 9.9.2005, (don’t know if he can choose to retire on a even better date i.e. 9.9.2009, ahahah!)

Below is the presentation slide of Liewcf, you may want to check out if you miss today talk.

Liewcf also shared briefly about the kinds of advertising income that he is earning, SEO tips, adsense optimasation strategy and also disclosed his earning per month. If you want to know how much Liewcf is earning, please continue reading…

andrian-neowave.JPG

Andrian from Neowave - sharing about prevention of fraud on online payment. He brief us about the normal types of credit card payment and the basic methods to fight fraud online.

He reminded us that the key point is “better be safe than sorry” i.e. if you found any abnormality of the order, you should cancel the transaction immediately.

I found his sharing was practical and pertinent to webmasters, like me.

Due to Alang, the legendary webmaster, did not able to speak at the event (last minute), Ikram Omar from Filament was the last speaker of the day.

Ikram shared about the concept of “Gribs On The Web”. As a non-tech person I am, I also was a bit lost during this session.

lucky-draw.JPG

It is almost a convention of our webmaster gathering, Exabytes always kind to give out gift to the attendees. Louis was one of the lucky bloggers obtained prize during the lucky draw session.

In fact, I was very lucky too, I got 2 T-shirts and 1 coupon voucher worth RM399. I always feel that 2008 is a lucky year for me…hahahah!

As I said in my previous post, one of the greatest time during such gathering is to meet old blogger friends as well as new friends.

Others webmaster that I met but yet to have opportunity to take photo with are:

Rahman, an internet marketer from site-booster.com

RuhaniRabin, a talented programmer.

Megat Fazir Izmir from Terzetto Technology.

Gray, a young and very talented IT geek from unlimitedInfinity.com

Chow Kar Meng from the organiser.

Chee Hong, my “old online friend” but only manage to meet 1st time during this event.

Of course also my good friend, Mr Part Time.

Overall, I am pretty pleased about this gathering and do feel the sense of belonging especially when I met all the old blogger friends.

I hope we all can meet soon again and don’t know if I would to organise the same would there be anyone joining…hahaha!

Oops, almost forget you are still waiting to know how much our Malaysia Problogger is earning per month. Being a programmer Liewcf presented the answer in the below formula:

Earning Per Month = USDX,000

INTERESTING right! HAHAHA!

If you still curious of knowing X = to what, the best person to give you the answer I guess is Liewcf’s mother lor. Hahah!
