Malaysian Dot Com Youth Search Winner is…

January 19th, 2008 · 9 Comments

As you know the award presentation ceremony for the Malaysian Dot Com Youth Search Award was held on yesterday which was a working day for most of the people. As such, the crowd attended was not many (less than 200).

Below are some of the pictures and brief report from the ceremony. I hope it will be useful for those who did not have chance to attend the event.

“The Registration Counter”

As expected, the award of the highest vote went to Paul Tan’s Automotive News. Paul received 4051 votes in this competition. Paul has a strong alexa ranking of 11,454.

The grand prize of RM20,000 which is meant to award the very best commercially viable web project went to Tan Wei Heng from Tan’s site ranks at 17,008 in Alexa. Based on Alexa there are currently 780 linking in to his site. If that is true, it means there are 780 websites using his chat box system.

I guess chat box is a good platform for online advertising business. Since online advertising is the core business of one of the main organiser i.e. Naffnang, hence, it is not difficult to see the rationale behind.

Frankly speaking, I was a bit shock (as well as LiewCF, who was sitting just right next to me) when we 1st heard about the winner announcement as I have never heard of ShoutMix before this. However, LiewCF recalled that he has some impression of the name and told me that this site is offering chat box system.

“Malaysian Problogger-LiewCF & Christy Yong, the Priscean Bunny”

“Lam Poh Ee of the founder of Asia Part Time

“Jeff the PR & Marketing Director of Friendster”

“Harry Ong, the deaf artist from RC Deaf Missions”

“Pretty and sporting show girl, Lena”

“Shirley & Rachel from the Asian Youth Ambassadors”

Hey Eddie, thanks for the name card. Missed the chance to know you and others more. I wasn’t very alert at the time because of some issues with the organizers. Wasn’t expecting the award though.

Anyway, ShoutMix has more than 780 users for sure. I have 150,000 new users just from the past year alone. ShoutMix will hit 4th anniversary this May. Customers include Fox TV stations in the US. :-)

And yes I owe one to Danny Foo for his help during the early days of ShoutMix. May we all meet someday. I’m not well known because I wasn’t involved in any social events. I was being too troubled juggling things when I was a student.

I’m trying to get involved now and I hope it is never too late!
