In Malaysia it is rather rare to see law firm has any impressive presence online. Perhaps they don’t believe such presence could help them in any significant manner.
In fact, I totally disagree!
3 simple reasons:
1. more and more people are now turning online to look for information, of course, including legal information.
2. with the tight restriction of advertising rules imposed by Bar Council, law firms should have more reason to take the advantage of online marketing which is less regulated by said party.
3. with internet, it is easier to do business in overseas, which means there will be more cross border transactions being carried out every day. An online presence is the easiest way and most direct manner where foreigners can look for lawyers in Malaysia.
Lets see how far has US law firm gone beyong us.
They make full use of webblog, Youtube, Facebook and many others. Now they are also starting to have presence in Second Life.
Oops…perhaps most of the Malaysian lawyers has not even heard of Second Life.
Briefly, Second Life is a real “cyber World”. It reflects the whole world/social system using the technology. You can buy land using its unique currency, interact with other people…anything that you can do in this real world, you can do there.
Lovells LLP is a US law firm, who has a presence in Second Life which is very impressive indeed.
