What is a Blawg?

Almost everyone know what is a blog. However, have you heard of Blawg?

If you key in “Blawg” and make a search in Google, you will find a site named rank at the top. is a place for you to submit law blog for free. So what really a “Blawg” is?


Based on the most popular, a “Blawg” is:

A blog focusing on commentary about the law, generally written by a law professor, law student, or lawyer. A portmanteau of “law” and “blog“.”

Based on the definition given in Blawg Republic, a “Blawg” is:

a weblog dedicated to law-related issues, or the issues of people in the legal profession, or both.”

In short, a “Blawg” is a blog contains law related issues from laws, people to technology aspect. An alternative name for “blawg” is “law blog” or “legal blog”.

With the definition provided herein, do you think is a blawg? haha!

History of Blawg

Blawg or rather is started by Bill Gratsch in December 2002. At that point of time, with an idea of creating a law blog directory, he only found 57 law blogs. However, as at today, based on the statistic stated in Blawg’s Home page, there were 1,773 blogs and 211,379 active post.

Today, it seems like is equal to blawg/law blog as if ebay equal to online auction.

I believe the amount of blawg in will increase tremendously very soon…
